Halloween 2012

“In the regular world, Halloween is when children dress up in costumes and beg for candy. In Girl World, Halloween is the one night a year when a girl can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it.”
-Mean Girls

Oh, how this statement becomes increasingly more popular every year. I know that all girls, at some point in their lives, have been guilty of it. The reason I love Halloween so much, besides getting scared, is that I get to see all the clever costumes people come up with.

Costumes I loved:

Jessica Alba, Cash Warren and family
I Love that her family went as “The Incredibles.”  I also love that they had a theme and rolled with it, it really worked! When you’re with children, it’s important to keep the costumes wholesome. Remember, that after all, Halloween is all about the children.

Ellen
She is the queen of comedy. I love that this is the outfit she went with because I particularly didn’t care for this outfit at the Emmys but she pulled it off and loved it.

Lauren Conrad
I love the young, fresh look she gave to Mary Poppins by wearing a shorter skirt. The skirt was just the right length.

Isla Fisher
I don’t know why, but I love the sock monkey.

Miley Cyrus
This pains me to say this, but she really pulled off Nicki Minaj tastefully... well, as tastefully as one could.

Emma Roberts
So, normally dressing like a prostitute would put you in the slut category, but I thought this was great! Emma dressed as Vivian Ward from Pretty Woman, who was played by her famous aunt—Julia Roberts

Sarah Hyland
We all remember watching Recess on Saturday mornings. Well played my friend.

Costumes That I hated:

Liberty Ross
What was she thinking? She was with children! Nobody wants to see her in a tight leather jumpsuit going door to door with her kids. She took the spotlight away from them, and not in a good way.

Seal
Just because you and Heidi are not together anymore does not give you an excuse to put little to no effort into your costume.

Stacy Keibler
She really looked great, but who/what was she supposed to be? Just because you add a mask to your outfit doesn’t mean you’re ready for Halloween. To me, it’s like adding animal ears to whatever you are wearing.

Christina Aguilera
First off let me say she has been a mess for quite some time now, and this Halloween costume just confirms she is nowhere near getting back on the straight and narrow. But, let’s face it, when has she ever been on her “A” game?

Paris Hilton
This is a perfect example of slut meets Halloween. What is she even supposed to be?

Just for kicks here are some of my best moments!

Trends I Hate

Leather Outfits
First off, I have to say, I’m all for leather. It’s cool, edgy and gives the appearance that you could kick anyone’s butt. But, the thing I hate is wearing leather from head to toe. Leather dresses are not flattering in the least bit, and they never look good.

If you’re going to wear leather, make one piece the statement; for example: Pants, Jacket, skirt

Leggings as pants
So I know we are all guilty of the terrible, ever-increasing trend, but... LEGGINGS ARENT PANTS! If you’re going to wear them, cover your butt. The only appropriate place to wear leggings is the comfort of your own home or at the gym.

Crop tops

I don’t even know what to say about this trend except that I hate it. The thing that is just awful is that people combine leggings with crop tops, and that is just unacceptable.

Miniskirts with Uggs
First off, I have to say that I have a pair of Uggs. They keep my feet warm at home and are easy to slip on if I have to go to the grocery store. But, I would never think about wearing them out for the day or an evening out on the town. It’s even worse when Uggs are paired with a denim miniskirt. You tend to see this a lot in Arizona during the winter months. I think it’s because it never really gets that cold. But, I don’t understand the thinking behind the concept of this outfit. Your feet are cold but your legs are not?  Leave the denim miniskirts where they belong… the beach, or better yet 1995.

Ed Hardy
WARNING: If you see someone wearing Ed Hardy, run! Run fast into the other direction. You may get a fist pump to the face, or you might suffocate from their cheap imitation designer cologne. They also might want to show you their souped up truck that is lifted so high you need a ladder to get in it.

Crocs
They may be comfortable and easy to slip on, but no respectable adult should be wearing crocs.

Ponchos

The only reason someone should wear a poncho is, well… there really isn’t one. It’s ok if you came to Disneyland unprepared and it started raining all of a sudden, or if you’re going to ride splash mountain. But, even then, what’s the purpose of riding Splash Mountain if you don’t want to get wet? So really, there is never a good reason to wear a poncho.

The Emmys

I love awards season, and what a great way to start it off than with the Emmys. I love to see what the stars are going to wear and whether they deserve that best dressed gold statue or not. This year there were a lot of great dresses, some not so great dresses and a lot of inbetweeners.  So lets get down to business, we can start with the best dressed of the night.

Leslie Mann -
My number one pick of the night would be Leslie Mann, wearing a Naeem Khan dress. I love everything about this dress. First, who doesn’t love a dress with pockets? Second, I love the detailed pattern in cream on the top half of the dress; I also love the orange with a splash of turquoise jewelry.

Hayden Panettiere -
Wearing Marchesa. She looks like an Indian queen. I love the aqua-blue draped over the gold dress. She kept the accessories simple witch is great because the dress itself makes all the statement you want to make.

Jessica Pare -
Jessica wearing a white Jason Wu dress. This dress is simple but elegant. She looks like a Greek goddess. Just enough color with the red lip and the green ring.

January Jones -
January in Zac Posen. She never fails impress at award shows. Zac Posen always does an amazing job at creating elegant dresses with just the right amount of edginess to them. His dresses are a piece of artwork in and of themselves. I love the structure of this dress. It’s a modern day twist of a southern bell.

Zoey DeChannel
Zoey wearing a Reem Acra light-blue dress. This dress was pure perfection. Love the color, love the deep sweet heart neck line and love the flow. This picture does not give the dress the respect it deserves. There was so much detail on the skirt and it moved so well on the red carpet.

Emily VanCamp
Emily wearing J. Mandel. This grey dress is AMAZING! I love the chiffon and how it gathers at the hips up into the top of the dress and over the shoulders.

Julia Louise Dreyfus
Julia in Christian Siriano. I love the maroon dress with the blue earrings. The draping of the sleeves in front and back topped off at the top of the shoulder with a knot is a great touch.

Allison Williams
Allison wearing Oscar de la Renta. This dress is also one of my top favorites. The emerald green color was a great choice also I’m in love the mini skirt at the waist and the  structured neckline is just fabulous.

Michelle Dockery
Michelle wearing Louis Vutton. I love the color and material of this dress. She didn’t stray too far from her character as Lady Mary Crawley ready to have dinner with the family.

Worst Dressed
I had this game for the computer when I was younger called “Barbie Fashion Designer.” For those of you who have never heard of it, you are able to design and print out an outfit for your Barbie. Most of the outfits you could make were pretty stylish, but then there were the times that the dresses you would create were not the most stylish… well they were just down right ugly, and let’s just say these next two dresses are pretty similar to what the ugly dresses would look like topped off with hideous shoes that they probably purchased from Charlotte Russe that were buy one get one 50% off.

Phoebe Price and Emilia Clarke

Lucy Lue
Lucy looks like she’s ready to go off and fight war, or better yet ready to fight crime with the rest of her crew from Charlie’s Angels.

Christine Baranski
This dress would have been good for someone who is 20. For someone her age (60), this dress was not ok. It was too short and too gold.

Martha Plimton
Everything about this dress is terrible. It looks like poorly crafted lingerie that has way too much material.

Kristin Wigg
She looks like she is wearing a night gown.

These ladies decided to wear their bed sheets

This was the worst of the night.
Ashley Judd. This dress is just awful. It looks so cheap and it's poorly tailored.

Theses ladies wanted looked like a glow stick at a rave.

The men of the Night

It’s pretty hard to look bad as a man.

John Cryer -
I like the gray suit coat

Jessie Pinkman -
I like the two-toned black.  And come on, who doesn’t love a man in a bow-tie?

Ricky Gervais -
I like the all black, but the pants could be tailored just a bit more.  And I hate the shoes. Do they serve some kind of orthopedic function?

I do not know this gentlemen’s name but we can all come to the same conclusion that he’s pretty attractive and his suit is flawless.

Jessie Tyler Ferguson -
Lets just say, gay men know how to dress!

Kevin Costner -
Kevin could do no wrong in my eyes. I'm in love with him!
He just looks so cool. I Love the 3 piece suit. His wife on the other hand, not so cool .

Andy Cohen -
He really spiced it up by wearing that blue tuxedo shirt.

Seth McFarland -
I am really diggin’ on the white jacket.

The undecided… you tell me!
